Texas 9-1-1 Entities

Administrative Entities

The provisioning of 9-1-1 service in the state of Texas is administered by one of three types of 9-1-1 administrative entities: Home-Rule City, Emergency Communication District, or Council of Government / Regional Planning Commission.

Council of Governments/Regional Planning Commissions

There are 24 Council of Governments / Regional Planning Commissions that the CSEC provides administrative oversight for the provisioning of 9-1-1.

Home Rule Cities

There are 28 home rule cities in Texas that are responsible for the collection of 9-1-1 service fees and the provisioning of 9-1-1 within their own municipality.

Special Districts (Emergency Communication Districts)

There are 24 emergency communication districts in Texas (called "Special Districts" in State statute) that are responsible for the collection of 9-1-1 service fees and the provisioning of 9-1-1 within their jurisdiction.
